Author Notes - Martha Carr & Michael Anderle

September 18, 2019

I was talking to Michael Anderle on the phone today, and I told him I was working on author notes. He started riffing on what I could say about him so… Why waste a good idea like that? Here, dear Readers and Super Fans (kinda one and the same) are some MA factoids…

• For some reason, when he calls me from his car, he always drives past the exit or takes a wrong turn till he’s very lost – Every Time (like today). I like to think it’s my witty and charismatic conversation especially since I’ve seen the dude multi-task like a wizard. <<Mike Add: She’s right – I miss my turn off all the time! It’s freaky it happens so often. One time, I almost went the wrong way on a one-way street. (It’s in Vegas, a two-way turned into a one way, and I had to take a left. In order to get it right, I had to drive across the road and turn around in a parking lot of a motel to get going the right direction. I actually DON’T multi-task well during conversations. Two people talking at the same time completely shuts down my brain.>>

• He hates it when I mention Surviving Cancer in the Author Notes because he figures, no one is reading any farther in his notes. Too many triumphant fist pumps instead. <<Mike: Yeah, what the shiznit are you supposed to talk about after someone plays the cancer card? It’s not like you can then say ‘So, I was eating at Burger King…’ She freaking beat cancer HOW many times… I need to ask her if she is going to recite an eighth time just to screw with me?>>

• Whenever I mentioned still doing something that an admin could do – he cackles… loudly. He’s amused that I choose to overwork myself for no good reason. It’s really super effective behavior modification and especially since I have such a great admin – Hello Grace! <<Mike: Yeah, this is kinda true - I do cackle like Jack Nicholson playing the Joker. It was the only way I could get her to see the issue for what it is. When you work ninety hour weeks for a year, at some point, you need to look around and spend a few dollars to get your life back (if you are making some money after that year.) Not only does she enjoy the fruit of working hard, but someone else is able to put the money together to make their own life a bit better and reading is helping Martha, who is helping others. It’s a nice cycle of life.>>

• We were on a zoom call once, and both forgot to turn off our computers and walked away. Perhaps we were a teensy bit overworked that week? Anyway, I came back three hours later and wondered what I was looking at – someone’s living room? Right at that moment, Michael walked across the room drinking a Coke.
